I have been a nurse and worked with the geriatric population since high school. but I was blessed to be able to help care for my father in 2003-2004 during his battle with cancer. Then it was not being a nurse it was being a daughter, a daughter that knew sometimes more than she should but not enough to explain it well enough to the rest of the family. I also had to learn the lessons of long distance caregiving and the many family dynamics of caregiving. Luckily I had a position where taking time off to do it was not a problem. It was the greatest nursing/nurturing/hardest/most rewarding thing I have done.
